Starting in the Fall of 2019, CanvaSounds will initiate its new annual season by curating concerts in tandem with NYC-based new music ensembles and soloists. Our first concert, on the 19th of October, will present works of 6 composers by Amalgama (www.amalgamaensemble.com ) at the Areté Gallery (www.aretevenue.com ) in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.
Our concert will present works by Gabriel Bouche Caro, Stylianos Dimou, Diana Rodriguez, Aida Shirazi, and George Katehis for various configurations of Amalgama’s ensemble, as well as improvisations by Amalgama. Visuals artists are encouraged to join the event and to create during the events. Free admission, and drinks will be served.

Amalgama is a New York City-based ensemble dedicated to the synthesis of improvisation and notated contemporary classical music. We reinvent the traditional roles of classical concert music in order to create thought-provoking, accessible concert experiences that incorporate interdisciplinary performance and composer-performer collaboration. Each of Amalgama’s seven core members is both a performer and a creator, forging new space in the interstices of these activities.
